Bengaluru: India’s legal system is infamous for delays in the delivery of justice. Procedural bottlenecks, red tape and low levels of digitisation have long hampered efficiency. However, the situation is slowly changing. Alongside government-led reforms, several private players are leveraging emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to modernise the justice delivery system.

One such entrepreneur is Chinmay Bhosale, co-founder of legaltech startup NYAI, who is working to bring transformative change to India’s legal ecosystem through AI-powered solutions. Bhosale comes from a family with deep roots in legal practice spanning several generations.

“Being a gold medallist lawyer with a master’s and doctorate in law, I understand the ecosystem well. I have also completed a post-doctorate at Harvard Law School. With 16 years of hands-on legal experience and three generations of legal practice in my family, strong legal acumen is being brought to the table,” Bhosale told BizzBuzz.

He said the motivation behind starting NYAI was to simplify legal processes and make the system more efficient and accessible.

NYAI is a vertically trained deeptech legal intelligence platform designed to meet the needs of law firms, in-house legal teams and enterprises. The platform covers judgments from the Supreme Court, all High Courts, tribunals and other judicial bodies, along with orders, circulars and notifications issued by authorities such as the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

“All central, state and concurrent acts are covered on our platform. Our legal intelligence engine delivers results within seconds, while factoring in the context of a case much like a seasoned lawyer would,” Bhosale said.

Built in collaboration with technology leaders as co-founders, NYAI has also emerged as a creator of high-tech jobs. The startup currently employs a team of 20 professionals and plans to scale its workforce to 50 in the near future.

Importantly, these roles are being created in the deeptech domain, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics. At a time when India is positioning itself as a global AI hub, Bhosale and his team are making a concerted effort to contribute to that vision while modernising the country’s legal system.
